PINK THE ARTISTAlecia Beth Moore was born on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, to nurse Judy and insurance salesman Jim Moore, a Vietnam War veteran.   She has described her background as “Irish-German-Lithuanian-Jew”. Although a healthy baby at birth, she quickly developed asthma that plagued her through her early years.  Pink attended Central Bucks High School West.

Pink began performing in Philadelphia clubs when she was about 14. She adopted her stagename, “Pink”, around this time. She had that nickname for quite some time by that point, and initially it had been “a mean thing”.  She had gotten that name from the character “Mr. Pink” in Quentin Tarantino‘s film Reservoir Dogs. Pink has said, “I was extreme. I went through phases from skateboarder, to hip-hopper, to rave child, to lead singer in a band. I did it all, and all at the same time.” At 14, she was convinced to audition to become a member of the all-female group Basic Instinct, and earned a spot in the lineup.

PINK WITH DAUGHTER ON BIKEIn November 2010, Pink announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she and Hart were expecting their first child.] In June 2011, she gave birth to their daughter. In December 2016, she and Hart welcomed their second child, a son.

Pink was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and after performing a medley of her hits atop a car suspended from cables and riding around on a lawnmower, Pink sent her daughter Willow a message.

The Grammy-winning singer said her daughter told her recently she felt like she was ugly. Pink responded that many artists, from Jackson to Prince to David Bowie and even herself, were regularly made fun of, but pressed ahead with their art to inspire others.

“We don’t change,” Pink said. “We take the gravel in the shell and make a pearl. And we help other people to change so they can see more kinds of beauty.”

And in closing, she reminded her daughter: “You my darling are beautiful.”

Pink is a supporter of attachment parenting.

Attachment parenting is a parenting style that believes a child’s need for attention and closeness to their parents must be completely fulfilled in the first six years of life in order to keep it from becoming a disruptive preoccupation. In other words, if a child is given attention freely from the start, they will not spend time seeking it out. Parents who form a strong bond with their children in their earliest years set a foundation for independence, because a child who trusts in their parental attachment will feel safe enough to branch out on their own.
“If a child is deeper attached through sameness, through significance, through a sense of belonging, of loyalty, emotionally through intimacy, or feels known, they have many ways of holding on when physically apart,” says Dr. Gordon Neufeld, a renowned developmental psychologist and author. The term “attachment” in this instance means an intimate bond, fostered through physical, emotional, and psychological closeness. Attachment parenting operates on a six stage framework, where the parent must achieve a new type of closeness with their child each year. These stages correspond with the level of physical and emotional development that the average child is expected to reach as they grow from infant to toddler to kindergartner.
